Protecting your privacy is important to the Royal Bank Financial Group
This notice, in summary form, is intended to tell you where we obtain information
about you, and who has access to it once it is received by RBC Builder Finance.
It also tells you about your right to limit that access further.
Where we get information:
Most of the information we collect about you comes directly from you -
for example, the answers you provide on your loan application, such as your
income, assets or loans. Information may also come from other applications,
agreements or forms that you complete in order to receive our products and
services. In addition, we maintain record of each of your transactions,
which includes information such as loan balances and transactions
We also may receive information about you from companies affiliated with
RBC Builder Finance. We are a member of a family of companies known as RBC,
comprised of Royal Bank of Canada and its subsidiaries. RBC is one of the
largest and most sophisticated providers of financial products and services
in the world. If you are a customer of another RBC company, we may receive
information about you from that source. Examples include the same kinds of
information that you provide to us and other information such as transaction
data.
In addition, we may obtain information about you from a consumer-reporting
agency or from other parties (for example, your credit history or other facts
relating to creditworthiness and employment histories).
To whom we disclose the information:
We do not sell information about our customers to anyone. We provide
customer information about current or former customers from the sources
described above to parties outside of RBC Builder Finance only as follows:
- To other companies in the RBC Family. These
include providers of insurance, mortgage and banking services. We may share
information about you within the RBC family in order to make available to
you the full range of alternatives that a global financial services
organization has to offer.
- To companies who perform marketing services
on our behalf or with whom we have joint marketing agreements. A company
performing marketing services on our behalf would include, for example, a
company that assists in a broad mailing of materials advertising our
products or services. A joint marketing agreement is one where another
financial institution offers a product or service jointly with RBC
Builder Finance. This company, like those in the previous category, must
limit its use of the information to the purpose for which it was provided.
We may also disclose information about you in each of the following
instances below:
- To other companies as necessary to process
your business. For example, outside law firms that prepare
your loan documents and title companies that close your loans and
issue title insurance to us. Third parties in this category are
prohibited by agreement from using information about you except
for the narrow purpose for which it was intended.
- Where required by law or regulation.
Examples include responses to a subpoena, court order or regulatory
demand.
- As authorized by you. You may direct
us, for example, to send your account statements and confirms to
a third party.
- Otherwise as authorized or permitted
by law. For example, the law permits us to respond to a request
for information about you from a consumer-reporting agency.
Confidentiality and Security:
We consider all information we have about you to be confidential, including
the fact that you are a RBC Builder Finance client (unless you tell us otherwise).
Your information is only to be handled in the manner described in this notice.
Within RBC Builder Finance, we restrict access to information about you to those
employees and authorized agents who need to know that information in order to
provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and
procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to maintain the
confidentiality of your information. When appropriate, we also regularly assess
new technology and developments in this area and upgrade these safeguards.
Your Right to Opt Out
As we have described, we want to share the information we
have about you with other RBC companies to enhance our ability to provide or offer
you services or products, which would be of value to you. If you wish to limit
the sharing of information as described in this notice, please indicate your
choice(s) by checking the appropriate box(s) and forwarding to the address
below:
